I just recently subscribed to your mailing list and thought It would be a good idea to look back at some of your previous topics. Loved to find out that cycling is a passion of yours!

There is a small part of my brain that tells me the only reason I am employed is so that I can afford one more bike and can splurge on new kit. Finance is great and all but cycling is really the best thing in life

I am lucky to be living in Western Canada and can be out of the city and heading towards the foothills surrounding the Rocky Mountains after only 30 minutes of pedaling. The very few times I have done longer century(ish) rides within the city I have always felt so much more drained compared to when I go on long rides in the countryside. On nice rural roads I feel like I get in a rhythm and never want to stop. In the city I feel like I'm a ball of stress while either avoiding pedestrians on paths, or cars on the road and find myself not eating or drinking nearly enough as I'm more concerned about my safety than I am about enjoying cycling. I can’t say that I’ve ever bonked hard enough that I've needed some Chop Suey (or any metal for that matter) to bring me back but I can definitely relate to that moment where your body just decides its had enough.

I am jealous of your proximity to the ocean though! Being able to ride right up to a marina sounds like such a treat! If you want to chat bikepacking (or cycling in general), I would love to! There are some great semi-popular bikepacking routes near me that are 3-7 days long but I haven’t brought myself to do any overnight rides yet, maybe this summer!
